The Border Treaty with Moldova cannot be signed at this moment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania said after the Moldovan Government invited it to sign the document, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Ministry stated that the talks over the treaty on the regime of the state border between Romania and Moldova are in progress. “As the negotiating process is not yet over, the Treaty cannot be signed now,” the Romanian Foreign Ministry says on its website.
“The given document is not a ‘border treaty’ that delimits the border between Romania and Moldova, but a treaty on the regime of the state border that will regulate different technical and legal aspects of the regime of the joint border,” the Ministry says.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova on July 16 issued a communiqué announcing that it sent a verbal note to the Romanian Foreign Ministry and invited Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu to Chisinau to sign the Moldovan-Romanian Border Treaty.
The Romanian Embassy in Chisinau received the verbal note on July 17. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania considers that it is against the diplomatic norms to make the text of the note public before sending it to the Romanian authorities.
