The employees of the Border Police who work in regional and sector divisions situate in other settlements than those where they have the place of residence will receive service lodging. The relevant provisions are contained in a bill to amend a number of legal acts concerning the Border Police. The bill was examined and agreed by the Cabinet on August 26. The initiative is aimed at encouraging young specialists.

The bill also includes amendments concerning the special ranks of border police officers. Thus, the department heads will hold special ranks of lieutenant-general and general-colonel.

In a move to make sure that the international treaties and agreements are observed, the Border Police will supplement its powers in preventing, identifying and counteracting illegal migration and other crossborder offenses related to trafficking in arms and munitions, weapons of mass destruction and related materials. The proposed amendments are in line with the strategy for reforming the Ministry of the Interior and the EU standards.
