Border policemen and EUBAM experts discovered a hemp field of about 0.5 ha near Etulia village of Comrat district. More than 15 tonnes of marijuana would have been obtained from the plants if they had reached maturity, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Border Police, the hemp was growing in the middle of a sunflower field. It was established that the hemp was cultivated by a man aged 38.

Border Police spokeswoman Daniela Manzatu has told IPN that now the hemp is considered corpus delicti. After the police officers are issued with an authorization, it will be burned.

If it’s proven that the hemp was cultivated with the purpose of selling it, the owner of the plot will serve 7 to 15 years in jail.
