The border institutions of the Republic of Moldova and Romania strengthen cooperation in the field of risk analysis. For the purpose, a bilateral meeting involving experts from the two countries was held at the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Border Police, IPN reports.

The experts agreed that the main security threats on the common border are related to illegal migration and illicit trade in cigarettes and tobacco products.

“The meeting centered on the developments on the Moldovan-Romanian border segment and cooperation between the border institutions in the field of risk analysis. This way, there were analyzed the cases recorded on both sides of the common border in the field of crossborder crime in 2022 and estimated the factors that influenced the character of the border security threats on the common segment,” it is said in a press release issued by the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Border Police.

The experts also considered the impact of the military aggression against Ukraine on crossborder crime in general. Following an analysis, there were determined the main trends in common crossborder crime and estimated the evolution tendencies of the major risks to common border security in 2023 and the probability of new risks.

As from April 15, the border authorities of Romania and the Republic of Moldova have applied coordinated control at the Albiţa (Romania) - Leuşeni (Moldova) border crossing point so that there is now only one check when entering Romania instead of two checks used earlier.
