Nine employees of the Border Police and the head of the General Border Police Inspectorate Rosian Vasiloi were punished disciplinarily after the tragic shooting incident that happened at the Chisinau International Airport this June. Minister of Internal Affairs Adrian Efros said that he will propose dismissing a secretary of state of the MIA, IPN reports.

The official told a news conference that five employees – a superior officer and four superior sub-officers of the Border Control Unit - were severely reprimanded. Another four employees – the deputy heads of the Border Police Sector, the shift head of the Border Control Unit and the superior operative officer on duty of the Dispatcher’s Service of the Regional Coordination Center – were dismissed.

“Given the committed disciplinary deviations, the head of the General Border Police Inspectorate was punished with severe reprimand. The Cabinet will be presented with the proposal to dismiss the secretary of state in charge of this area and to design safety and public order policies in connection with the weak control over the implementation of policies worked out within the MIA,” said Adrian Efros, without specifying the name of the secretary of state.

Answering journalists’ questions, the minister said the severe reprimand in the case of Rosian Vasiloi is valid for nine months and particular financial and job promotion restrictions will be in place in the period.

In another development, Adrian Efros said that following the reconstruction of the Airport’s terminal, the lessee Avia Invest stripped the Border Police Sector of the building intended for the operational and administrative unit. “It didn’t set up special places for interviewing and placing persons who are banned entry into the country. It didn’t put up turnstiles, access doors between document checking boxes. This favored the risk of uncontrolled passing of the state border,” said the minister.

A border guard and an airport security officer were killed at the Chisinau International Airport on June 30 after a citizen of Tajikistan who was banned entry into Moldova fired at them after grabbing the firearm of the first. The individual was hurt during the siege and died in the hospital several days later. The body was repatriated to Tajikistan by relatives.
