The signing of the Border Agreement between Moldova and Romania will not stop the Communists Party's speculations about the official Bucharest's intentions to recreate the Great Romania, considers the executive director of the Foreign Policy Association Victor Chirila. The political analyst stated for Info-Prim Neo that the PCRM is a party for which the dialogue and compromise are not fundamental ideas in the communication with the partners and political opponents. Therefore, there are signs that this agreement will be also regarded as unwillingness by Romania to recognize the border between the two states. According to Victor Chirila, Communists' speculations are nothing but lies as Romania recognized the borders of the present Moldova in 1961, by the Border Treaty signed by Romania and the Soviet Union. Under the international law, even if one of the signatories disappears, the treaty anyway remains in force. Furthermore, Romania did not deny this document. Moldova inherited from the USSR many agreements and treaties signed by the Soviet Union. The expert also said it does not matter how the document between Bucharest and Chisinau will be called – agreement or treaty. The Moldovan authorities insist that it be called treaty, hoping that this way Communists' speculations would be ended. The official Bucharest avoids the term 'treaty', saying the signing of a border treaty would mean accepting the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. “Mister Basescu (Romania's President) said earlier he would not sign a treaty that would recognize that pact. This is done in a symbolic way. That's why this discussion about treaty and agreement is not very relevant. Another aspect is who will sign this agreement. Bucharest says it should be signed by the heads of the Border Guard Services, while Chisinau is for the Presidents or Prime Ministers,” Victor Chirila said. As to the relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol, this agreement should show the Transnistrians that Romania wants to build stable political and economic relations and help Moldova come closer to the EU. It should refer to a number of things that will be covered by the road map for the liberalization of the visa regime between Moldova and the EU, the expert said. The signing of a border agreement between Moldova and Romania was a heated subject between the Moldovan and Romanian authorities. During a recent televised program, Traian Basescu said Romania does not exclude the possibility of signing such an agreement and that he wants to deprive Moldova's Communists of the argument that Romania wants to absorb Moldova.
