The immunization commission suggested that the Ministry of Heath should reduce the period after which a COVID-19 booster dose can be administered from six to four months of the completion of the vaccination series, IPN reports.

In a meeting, the commission analyzed the arguments in favor of reducing the interval between the completion of the vaccination series and the administration of the booster dose. “We are now in the process of finishing this document and I intuit that this interval could be reduced next week already, by order of the Ministry of Health,” Ninel Revenco, coordinator of the national immunization program, stated in a news conference.

Epidemiologist Laura Țurcan said a study of the effectiveness and protection ensured by the AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines against mild and severe forms of COVID-19, conducted in the UK, shows the efficacy of vaccines decreases in over 20 weeks of the administrator of AstraZeneca or Pfizer doses in older people and in those of the clinical risk group.

The epidemiologist noted that immunization with the booster dose in four months of the administration of the second dose is recommended by the World Health Organization and the European Medicines Agency. The administration of the third dose of Sinovac or Sinopharm is permitted in three-six months of the administration of the second vaccine dose.


Over 1.020 million people completed the vaccination serious in Moldova so far. The booster dose was administered to more than 203,000 people.
