The collections of the National Library of Moldova are now richer owing to a donation of Italian language books made by Lions Clubs. Also, the bust of Michelangelo Buonarroti made from Carrara white marble, which was donated by the Romualdo Del Bianco-Life Beyond Tourism Foundation and sculptor-author Dino De Ranieri from Pietrasanta, was unveiled in the Book Museum of the Library. The event entitled “L’Italiano Nostro e degli Altri/ Our and Others’ Italian” was held to celebrate the 20th edition of the Week of Italian Language in the World, IPN reports.
National Library director Elena Pintilei said Michelangelo Buonarroti is part of the European, and surely, Italian culture. The history of the Romanian book has a close connection with the Italian culture, especially Venice. The oldest book of the National Library’s collections was printed in Venice and has a niece story that is every time related to the visitors.
Italy’s Ambassador in Moldova Valeria Biagiotti said that the 20th edition of the Week of Italian Language in the World is celebrated today. The event promotes the Italian language and culture and is held under the aegis of the President of the Italian Republic. “In continuation of the activity started in 2018, the Library will receive more volumes in the Italian language. This way, the total number of the publications in our language rises to over 2,300. Many of the books donated today are intended for children and adolescents,” stated the ambassador.
The Week of Italian Language in the World is a cultural event promoted by the cultural and diplomatic network in the third week of October.
