The 15th Bookfest International Book Fair set for May 27-31, 2020 was cancelled by a decision taken by the Board of Directors of the Romanian Publishers Association following the extension of the state of emergency in Romania for another 30 days, until the middle of May, IPN reports.
The organizers of Bookfest, which stage local editions of the event in Romania and an international edition in Chisinau, said a book holiday centers on the joy shared around the printed word and its authors. Therefore, they cannot allow such an event to be overshadowed by an eventual sanitary risk that can be avoided.
Bookfest has local editions in Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, Târgu Mureș, Brașov and an international edition in Chisinau.
