The explosive ordnance disposal technicians of the National Army’s garrisons in Chisinau, Bălți and Cahul last year disposed of 1,335 explosive devices and 27,800 cartridges found all over Moldova, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Defense.
According to Lieutenant-Colonel Igor Livitski, of the Bomb Disposal Service, the technicians last year were most often called out in the districts of Ştefan-Vodă, Orhei and Ungheni. In Răscăieți and Răscăieţii-Noi villages of Ştefan-Vodă district, there were annihilated 571 explosives and over 14,300 cartridges.
As many as 198 explosives and 1,100 cartridges were found and disposed of in Plop-Ştiubei village of Căuşeni district. Thirty-two explosive devices were also found in Ivanovca Nouă and Lipoveni villages of Cimişlia district.
Among the explosives discovered in 2021 were antipersonnel and antitank mines, hand grenades, artillery shells and aerial bombs. These all dated from World War II.
