Romania will continue to offer solid support to the Republic of Moldova, adjusted to its needs, both at political level, starting with the active support of the approaches for advancing Moldova’s European course, and at bilateral level, through financial, material assistance and transfer of know-how, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu stated in a meeting with Moldova’s Premier Natalia Gavriliţa and Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, IPN, with reference to Agerpres.

Bogdan Aurescu and the two Moldovan officials discussed aspects of the regional situation influenced by Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and methods of counteracting the effects of this on the Republic of Moldova, facilitation of the transportation of freight from Moldova and Ukraine and via Romania so as to support the efforts to fight the global food crisis worsened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The officials underlined the necessity of accelerating the implementation of the interconnection projects, with emphasis on the bridges over the Prut and considered technical aspects of the disbursement of the donation of €10 million that was recently decided by Romania. The interlocutors agreed to implement the agreement on the €100 million worth of grants that recently took effect in an accelerated way by swiftly identifying the projects that will be financed.

After the meeting, Nicu Popescu wrote on Telegram that Romania is the most important supporter of Moldova’s EU accession prospects. “The promotion of the European aspirations following the submission of the questionnaire was the key subject of the conversation. We agreed to encourage the initiatives implemented under the bilateral framework, whose goal is to modernize and ensure the European development of our country. Together with Romania, we will strengthen our common culture, history and Romanian language with more infrastructure initiatives and projects. We also agreed to identify solutions to fluidize transport on the Moldovan-Romanian border,” said Nicu Popescu.

He noted that the meeting coincided with the decision of a Romanian mobile phone carrier to start to implement the reduced roaming charges. “This decision that is beneficial to the citizens of the two countries will step up interthuman contacts and will facilitate the development of the commercial and economic relations,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
