The body of a teenage girl who drowned in the Prut River in Ungheni district was finally found after almost three days of searches.
IPN learned from the Emergencies Inspectorate that a rescue squad was called in on Thursday evening, and the search effort continued almost incessantly save for the night hours.
The Prut is notorious for its strong currents and muddy waters, which made the searches all the more difficult.
The girl’s body was eventually pulled from the water on Saturday at around 10:00.
According to reports, the girl went in for a swim in the company of several friends, and she was the only one who didn’t come out. An investigation is under way.
From the beginning of the year, 37 Moldovans died from drowning, including six children.
