The body of the Chisinau International Airport shooter will be repatriated to Tajikistan. The relatives of the man initiated the necessary procedures with the assistance of the Tajik diaspora in Chisinau.

“The repatriation of bodies of foreign citizens is not within the remit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. As a rule, the relatives of the dead person use the services of a funeral company specialized in the repatriation of bodies, which helps them to perform all the necessary legal procedures. As it is known, the relatives of the dead man already initiated the necessary procedures with the assistance of representatives of the Tajik diaspora in Chisinau,” representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration have told IPN.

As regards the criminal proceedings instituted over double murder, the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office continues the investigation with post-mortems and ballistic examinations. Meanwhile, a separate criminal probe is ongoing to investigate the actions of those in charge of the Airport’s security.

Formerly a Tajik police officer, the shooter was wounded in the exchange of gunfire on June 30 and died in the hospital several days later. In 2013, he was convicted of a serious crime, but was released on parole. In June, the man took part in a kidnapping. Then he took a flight to Chisinau via Turkey before the Tajik authorities could register him as an international fugitive.

The Chisinau Airport border police denied him entry as he failed to provide justification for his visit and specify the duration of his intended stay. Two hours later, as he was being escorted for his flight back, the man attacked the border guard accompanying him, grabbed his pistol and opened fire, killing the border guard and an airport security officer.
