Bluffs advance toward houses in Gotesti village

Steep banks formed by river erosion are advancing toward houses in Gotesti village, Cantemir district, and have already affected over 7 km along the Prut river. Several families have been evacuated, as their houses may be engulfed by the bluffs, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Government's press unit. The last month's rains made the situation even worse, as the soil erosion and the land slides activated. Some bluffs have become as deep as 20 meters. According to the village mayor, the situation has been assessed by the Government, which allocated 600,000 lei to build a reservoir. A working group led by Ecology Minister Violeta Ivanov is to go to that village to make the final estimates and to plan actions to stop the bluffs' advance.
