The new food package intended for blood donors that was approved by the Government at the end of August will be released when the supplies are used up, most probably in 2018. The package will contain products designed to restore the calories lost with the donated blood. Its value was raised from 50.9 lei to 100 lei.

“We are at the procurement stage. We announced a tender contest and hope a lot that we will receive the products by December 15-25. When the current supplies are exhausted, the donors will receive the new package. It is definite that next year the people will already get the new set,” head of the National Blood Transfusion Center Svetlana Cebotari has told IPN.

Currently, those who donate blood receive 250 ml of juice, a condensed milk can, a meat pâté can and an oil fish can.

The new food package will include a liter of sugar-free juice, meat and fish cans, about 100 grams of chocolate, 400 grams of halva or 250 grams of dried fruit and a vegetable can.

By 200 persons on average donate blood at the National Blood Transfusion Center each day. This is over 6,000 donations a month. The voluntary donors represent 85%. The other donors are relatives or friends of persons who need to have blood transfused.
