The electoral bloc ACUM will present an official list of persons proposed for candidates in single-member constituencies for the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections most probably next week. The candidates are now being examined by the meritocracy commission, the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel. She noted that she and Andrei Năstase haven’t yet decided in what constituencies they will run.

Maia Sandu said the list will definitely include Igor Grosu, Vladimir Bolea, Liliana Nicolăescu-Onofrei, Mihai Popșoi, Alexandru Slusari and Inga Grigoriu. There is no yet final decision as to the list of persons who represent other political forces.

According to the leader of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase, the bloc ACUM postponed the publication of the list as it expected other political forces to also take decisions about the joining of the bloc. In this connection, Maia Sandu said the Liberal Democratic Party transmitted the list of candidates who take part in the contest and are assessed by the meritocracy commission. Ex-Liberal heavyweight Valeriu Munteanu, who recently announced his support for ACUM, also sent his CV. The other forces that announced they would support the bloc haven’t yet submitted lists.

As to the recent declassification of the report compiled by the commission of inquiry into the “Open Dialog”, simultaneously with the submission of the application for having the bloc ACUM registered to the Central Election Commission, Maia Sandu said this action shows the current government’s despair and this will discredit the authors as no one believes these lies.

For his part, Andrei Năstase said the report, besides public discrediting, wants to contribute to the exclusion of the bloc ACUM from the election campaign. The trip to Brussels mentioned in the report was paid with internal funds, namely from the former member of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Alexandru Machedon.

As regards the eventual removal of ACUM from the race, Maia Sandu said the elections in such a case will not be recognized and this would mean complete isolation of the Republic of Moldova from the international community. “At internal level, we, the citizens, will decide up to what point they can go as it is very serious when they do not allow us to go to the polls at least,” she stated. “By our exclusion, they would bring their end closer,” said Andrei Năstase.
