The electoral bloc ACUM does not support the consultative referendum that will take place simultaneously with the parliamentary and calls on the electors not to vote in the plebiscite.

The leader of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) Andrei Năstase in a news conference said the law was violated as Parliament set the consultative referendum for February 24, concurrently with the parliamentary elections, on November 30, 2018, but the Election Code does not allow holding a referendum 60 days before and after elections, either parliamentary, presidential or local.

Igor Munteanu, candidate on behalf of the bloc ACUM in constituency No.15, said the February 24 referendum is organized by the current government with the aim of manipulating the citizens and distracting attention from real problems in the election campaign. The plebiscite is populist and is designed to improve the image of the Democratic Party. Igor Munteanu called on all the voters to ignore the referendum and to vote the candidates for MP according to their merits.

“This referendum is not scientifically and technically explained and there is no explanation why the number of MPs should be reduced to 61. All these subjects can be solved later, in a legal way, in the future Parliament, after ACUM takes over,” stated Alexandru Slusari, candidate on behalf of ACUM.
