The Romanian language must get an as wider area of influence in society as possible and they will then say that the Day of August 31 is a symbol holiday and that there is always holiday in our souls, teacher of the Romanian Language House “Nichita Stanescu” Alexei Axan has told IPN.

According to Alexei Axan, the blame for the non-functioning of the language in society must be assumed by everyone because the Romanian language speakers often switch to another language than the official one on the first occasion for the convenience of those with whom they talk. But this is not right.

“The Romanian Language Day is every day. Language means culture and cohesion of the power. By language we obtain what we want and a normal, not a divided society,” said the teacher, underlining that the language must not give birth to revolutions and wars.

Alexei Axan noted that it was a great joy for him to hear, for the first time in a trolleybus in 1991, the next station being announced in the Romanian language. “It was something extraordinary for us. We were rejoicing as if something remarkable happened, but it was something normal in fact. We surely have made progress since then,” stated the teacher.

He does not think that the name of the language should be stipulated in the Constitution as this is not an academic document. “The majority language of the speakers is a Romanic language that is Romanian scientifically. Based on imperial policy, they continue to promote the ‘Moldovan’ language,” he said.

On August 31, Moldova celebrates the Our Language Day.
