The Bishop of Balti and Falesti Marchel told a news conference on May 14 that despite the last amendments made to the Law on the Equality of Chances, this law still defends the interests of the homosexuals who bought this right. According to the priest, things changed slightly after these changes were instituted, but a lot of work is yet to be done on the law until society is satisfied with it, Info-Prim Neo reports. Bishop Marchel said the refined Law on the Equality of Chances has been so formulated that after its adoption other notions and phrases wanted by the Government of Moldova can be easily included in it. “Those in power are not concerned about the invalids and pensioners, but about the homosexuals whose rights and interests they want to legalize at all costs,” stated Bishop Marchel. He also said that the adoption of the Law on the Equality of Chances will not lead to the liberalization of the visa regime that is wanted by the people and promised by the authorities, but to a slight simplification of the border crossing procedure. “The visas will not cost €60, but €45-50, while the set of necessary documents will contain 8-9 documents, not 12-13,” said the priest. His Holiness Marchel called on the Moldovans to take attitude to the Government’s intention to homosexualize society because the pressure exerted by the Liberal Party, the Communist Party and the Democratic Party contributed to slightly changing the content of the Law, while the people’s pressure can have even a greater impact. According to Bishop Marchel, the violation of the rights of those to which the Law on the Equality of Chances refers will be punished with a fine of up to 30,000 lei or up to three years’ imprisonment. The draft Law on the Equality of Chances was approved by the Government last week and is to be submitted to Parliament by the end of this week.
