His Holiness Marchel, the Bishop of Balti and Falesti, spreads political propaganda in favor of the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union and intentionally denigrates the European Union, by drawing a parallel between the EU and debauchery, said political analyst Oazu Nantoi. For his part, Bishop Marchel says that he has an opinion than differs from that of the analyst and believes that Moldova should be on friendly terms both with the EU and the East, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a training seminar centering on security, Oazu Nantoi said there is conducted a real information campaign. “On the one hand, Marchel tries to build a positive image for the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union that does not yet exist. On the other hand, by different ways he attempts to discredit the European Union and Moldova’s European prospects,” stated Oazu Nantoi. According to the analyst, one of the instruments for discrediting the EU is the absolutely irrational and unjustified campaign centering on the Law on Guaranteeing of Equality. “It seems that His Holiness Marchel is trying to associate the EU with debauchery and homosexuality, at Russia’s instructions,” he said. Oazu Nantoi said that in reality this propaganda in favor of the Customs Union is promoted not only by the Bishop, but also the chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Moldova Victor Selin and the Communist Party that periodically changes its position and such organizations as the Russian Youth League. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, His Holiness Marchel said that Moldova should develop friendly relations both with the West and the East as the EU has values that should be followed, except for the debauchery, while with the East Moldova has common Christian roots because the Moldovan Orthodox Church is governed by the Russian Patriarchate. “The EU has many good values, but Moldova takes what’s worst from this power. The geographic position of Moldova and the Moldovans’ lifestyle enable us to have friendly and cooperation relations with both sides,” said Bishop Marchel. In the period after the adoption of the Law on Guaranteeing of Equality, the Bishop of Balti and Falesti Marchel gave a series of news conferences where he expressed his regret at the authorities’ decision to pass this law.
