The one-off birth allowance could increase to 20,000 lei under a legislative proposal put forward for public consultations by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
Today the birth allowance is 10,932 lei. The allowance last increased on January 1, 2023.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, about 27,000 children were born in 2022, down by 8.1% from the previous year.
