PAS/ACUM lawmakers Dan Perciun and Radu Marian have registered a legislative proposal that would make it easier for medical graduates to repay government-subsidized tuition if they choose to land a job other than a government-assigned one.
Dan Perciun told a press conference that under the current legislation medical graduates seeking alternative jobs may have to repay up to 250,000 lei to the university, and in a single installment, too. Besides being huge, the amounts are calculated using an opaque methodology, the MPs claim.
Radu Marian said the bill proposes in particular to introduce repayment schedules with multiple installments and for periods of three to five years. Another proposal is to have a clear methodology of calculating the costs of education that is approved by the Government, and not the Ministry of Health. Within that methodology, recipients of government scholarships should not be required to repay more than what a self-funded student normally pays in tuition fees.
The sponsors of the bill will collect signatures from medical students to endorse the initiative.
