Bill on reorganization of economic courts passed in final reading

The MPs on March 6 adopted in final reading the bill on the transformation of the economic courts into commercial courts and the liquidation of the Economic Court of Appeals, Info-Prim Neo reports. The bills on the reorganization of the specialized courts put forward by the Government and the Liberal Party were merged. The final bill was passed by the votes of 58 lawmakers attending. The president of the Supreme Court of Justice Mihai Poalelungi said earlier that the bill provides for transferring the ten judges of the Economic Court of Appeals to the Chisinau Court of Appeals (six judges) and other courts (four judges), as the Supreme Court of Justice decides. If somebody does not accept the transfer, they may resign. Earlier, following a challenge filed by Communist lawmakers, the Constitutional Court ruled that the liquidation of the economic courts was unconstitutional. As a result, the Government proposed a new bill, suggesting transforming the economic courts into commercial courts, with a limited number of powers. The Liberal Party asked that Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim should assume responsibility if somebody challenges the bill in the Constitutional Court and the Court decides that the proposed changes are unconstitutional.
