The Penal Code will be supplemented with a new offense component, namely actions taken to separate a part of the territory of the Republic of Moldova and the distribution of information that incites such actions, IPN reports.
The document that was given a second, final reading by Parliament introduces into the Penal Code notions that stipulate deeds related to espionage and treason. This way, the initiation, organization or constitution of illegal informative units on the Republic of Moldova’s territory will be punished criminally. The persons who will incite other persons to commit actions that affect the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, state security or defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova will be held accountable.
According to the authors of the legislative proposal, the necessity of introducing a system of legal and penal measures for manifestations that have an impact on the integrity, sovereignty and security of the state derives from the current developments and is aimed at ensuring national security.
