The Donors Meeting in Moldova, which will be held in Brussels on December 12, will contribute to the enhancement of bilateral cooperation relations and to strengthening of efforts to develop the economy in Moldova. This was the conclusion made by Premier Vasile Tarlev and resident representative of the International Monetary Fund in Chisinau, Johan Mathisen, during a meeting on Thursday, November 30. Mathisen stated that between the IMF Mission and governmental institutions in Moldova there were established constructive relations of cooperation and trust as concerns the working out and implementation of certain well-balanced policies on economy development. This dialogue, in the IMF official’s opinion, is a good basis for the approval by the Fund’s Board of Directors of the new memorandum on economic and financial policies for 2007. Earlier, IMF official Thomas Richardson stated he will propose the Fund’s Executive Council to increase the sum of the loan granted to Moldova from USD 118 to USD 163 mln, according to the Program approved in early May this year. The supplement of USD 45 mln is designed to support Moldova in the process of adjusting to the difficult external circumstances that it confronts, such as the ban on wine exports to Russia and the price gas increase. Although the disbursement of the first installment was set for December, if IMF approves the increase in loan, this term could change. The amount of the first installment could be increased up to USD 40 mln compared to the previous figure of about USD 17 mln.
