Big fire in dry grass field threatens apartment buildings

A large-scale fire started not far from the former head office of the State Hydrometeorology Service, close to Grenoble St. It covered about one hectare of dry grass and the dense smoke reached the residential area. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Diana Turcanu, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, said that a call to 901 was made at about 3pm. Three firefighting vehicles traveled to the scene. After almost an hour, the fire could not be localized as the wind extends it quickly. The people living nearby presume that persons set fire to the dry grass. The flames expanded close to Grenoble St and the people are afraid that the fire may get to the apartment buildings. The firefighters call on the people not to set the dry grass on fire as it burns swiftly and the wind extends the fire.
