Better voting conditions for persons with hearing and visual impairments

Sign language interpretation will be available in three polling places of Chisinau municipality in the October 30 presidential elections. In another three polling stations of the country, closed-circuit television systems will be set up to significantly amplify images, IPN reports.

The three polling places that will provide sign language interpretation are: No. 1/22 at 32/2 Independentei St; No. 1/152 at the Radio House, and No. 1/177 at 6/2 Igor Vieru St. Those who will ensure sign language interpretation, at request, will facilitate communication between members of the electoral office of the polling place and persons with hearing impairments.

The polling places with closed-circuit television system are: No. 1/137 of Chisinau municipality; No. 2/36 of Balti municipality, and No. 5/3 of Basarabeasca town. The project is implemented by the public association “Alianta INFONET” in partnership with the Association “Motivatie” of Moldova, the Association of the Deaf of Moldova, and the Medical-Social Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Poor Vision “Low Vision”.

For the first time, the polling places on October 30 will provide magnifying glasses for persons with visual impairments to be able to vote easier.
