Services and medical conditions for women in detention were created at Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The penitentiary has a renovated gynecological room equipped with high-performance medical equipment, including equipment adapted for persons with special needs. Also, in the women’s sector of the remand facility, two courtyards were renovated and furnished with sports equipment.

Attending the inauguration event, Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru noted that improving detention conditions and health care services for all people in detention are priorities on the Ministry’s agenda.

The renovation and endowment effort was possible with the support of UNFPA Moldova, following a comprehensive analysis of the urgent needs faced by the prison system in Moldova. The value of the donation is 860,000 lei.
