From September 1, the students of two district schools will study in better conditions. Until the start of the new school year, the first stage of renovation works will be completed at the Theoretical Lyceum “M. Manole” of Salcuta village of Causeni district and at the secondary school “Alexandru cel Bun” of Varzaresti village of Nisporeni district. The two schools are rehabilitated within the Moldova Education Reform Project that is carried out by the Ministry of Education with financial assistance from the World Bank, IPN reports, quoting a press statement of the Ministry.

While on an inspection field visit, Deputy Minister of Education Elena Cernei inquired how the renovation works go. “Most of the times, the rural schools do not have access to water supply and sewerage, while the ventilation and heating systems are not efficient. Most of the buildings of general education institutions were erected half a century ago and their renovation necessitates very large investments. By optimizing the school network, the Ministry of Education aims not only to transport the children to district schools, but to also offer better learning conditions,” she stated.

The renovation works at the two district schools included the repair of roofs, thermal insulation of walls and replacement of windows and external doors. The works at the secondary schools in Varzaresti during the first stage will total over 3.75 million lei, while at the Theoretical Lyceum “M. Manole” in Salcuta – 6.52 million lei.

Inga Ulinici, director of the secondary school “Alexandru cel Bun”, said this district school is only 50% used. “Now we have over 340 students, but hope that after the rehabilitation, the students who go to general education institutions in Nisporeni will come to our school, which is closer to their home. If we offer better education conditions, it will be easier for us to persuade the parents to bring their children to our school,” she stated.

The Moldova Education Reform Project is implemented during April 2013 - August 2018 and has a budget of US$40 million.
