The Chisinau Press Club awarded the best ten journalists of the year 2010. The sixteenth Ten Journalists of the Year Gala took place at the National Theater "Mihai Eminescu” on December 17. The prize represents a crystal apple pierced by a bronze arrow, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The winners are:
1. Tatiana Iatsko, “Ziarul de Garda”;
2. Vadim Thoric, “Panorama”;
3. Sorina Stefarta, “Timpul de dimineata”;
4. Iulia Fedorova, “Jurnal TV”;
5. Elena Robu, “Pro TV Chisinau”;
6. Victoria Colesnic, “TV 7”;
7. Ludmila Muntean, “Publica TV”;
8. Diana Railean, “Free Europe”;
9. Ion Cernei, Rezina paper “Cuvant”;
10. Valeriu Vasilica, “Info-Prim Neo”.
Nadin Gogu, the head of the Independent Journalism Center and one of the organizers of the Gala, said that this year the journalists were selected by a new method. “We asked the media nongovernmental organizations to nominate the journalists who deserve being awarded. Afterward, the senate of the Independent Journalism Center and five representatives of the mass media and NGOs chose the ten journalists,” she said.
According to Nadin Gogu, even if the procedure has changed, the criteria for selecting the awardees remained the same. They include the candidates’ professionalism, how they observed the deontological principles, what impact their articles had on the public, objectivity, etc.
Vasile Botnaru, director of Radio Free Europe Chisinau and author of the conception of the Press Club and of the logo of the prizes, said that the idea of the pierced apple derived from a caricature that he saw in childhood and that remained in his memory.
The organizers also awarded four special prizes. Irina Gotishan of Teleradio Moldova received the prize “Hope of the Year”. The prize “Development of the Year” went to the news program “Mesager” of Moldova 1 channel that is headed by Liliana Vitu. Maia Sadovici of Teleradio Gagauzia won the special prize for “Promotion of Diversity”. The prize for “Promotion of Satire in Politics” was given to Constantin Cheianu and Anatol Durbala of Jurnal TV.
The Ten Journalists of the Year Gala was organized by the Independent Journalism Center and the Committee for the Freedom of the Press.
