Best teachers to be granted MDL 20 thousand

The Government has increased to MDL 20 thousand the award for the best teachers of the year, operating changes to the decision on the organisation of the republican contest at the Thursday meeting, April 19. The contest “Teacher of the Year”, organised by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) was held during February 15 – April 15. The winners of the regional stages will benefit from awards worth MDL 1000, and the winners of the award “Best kindergarten Teacher”, “Teacher of the Year” and “Professor of the Year” will be given MDL 20 thousand each. Previously, the value of the award constituted MDL 5 thousand. Besides the titles and financial awards, the holders of the awards will receive higher teaching ranks. This contest aims at spurring the creative activity of the teachers as well as at increasing the reputation of the profession. Traditionally, the contest is organised in three stages: local stage, organised by the education institutions in October and November; the raion or municipal contest, which is organised by the education department in December and January; and the national stage, organised by MEYS during February-April every year. The teachers presented applications, an essay on the topic “The Portrait of the Perfect Teacher”, the offer for the organisation of a lesson etc.
