Moldovan students studying in Romania staged unplanned protests. With candles in hands and chanting anti-Communist slogans, the young persons expressed their indignation at the undemocratic means used by the Communist Party of Moldova to win the elections the third time, Info-Prim Neo reports. Two-three buses with Bessarabian students studying in Iasi are coming to Chisinau today to make common cause with the young people that protest in front of the Government. They hope to get to the capital of Moldova at about 14.00. In Bucharest, about 250 young persons gathered in the University Square on Monday evening at about 18.00. During an hour and a half, the Bessarabian students chanted ‘Down with the Communists’ and sang patriotic songs. “We came together to show symbolically that the young people are morning because the democracy in Moldova has died,” third-year student Vlad Durnea said, expressing the general sentiment of those attending the protest. On Friday, April 10, the students in Bucharest intend to stage a protest that will include approximately 500 persons. The march will start from the University Square and end at the Embassy of Moldova. In Iasi, about 300 Bessarabian students gathered in front of A.I. Cuza University at 20.00 on Monday evening and burnt samples of ballots with votes in favor of the PCRM. “We expressed our solidarity with the young people in Chisinau against the rigging of votes by the Communists,” said second-year student Daniel Caranfil. The Bessarabian students also held protests in Constanta and Galati. In Timisoara, the Moldovan students will stage today a protest march against the rigging of the elections by the PCRM.
