The Bessarabian Metropolitan Church is launching the third Easter campaign “Meal of Joy” through the charity foundation “Diaconia”. Funds will be raised between March 26 and April 14, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué, the foundation says that lessons will be given in education institutions to familiarize the students with the problems faced by the solitary elderly persons and with the possibilities of helping them. In the end, the students will be invited to contribute to preparing food parcels. In the period, donation boxes will be available in the shop chains Fourchette, Everest and Fagure and volunteers will urge the visitors to buy a product for the lonely elderly persons for the Easter holidays. ”In 2011, the campaign “Meal of Joy” brought together 300 young people and 90 solitary elderly persons. The people helped bring light to the homes where there lived poverty and despair. 2012 was declared the European Year for Active Aging and Solidarity between Generations. This initiative will be put into practice through the campaign. We will engage the young people in an educative project that will encourage them to deal with the problems of elderly people and to promote the Christian solidarity in stores,” said Igor Belei, director of “Diaconia”. The food parcels will be distributed to solitary elderly people through bishops and volunteers. ”Diaconia” is a social unit of the Bessarabian Metropolitan Church that started work as a non-profit organization in 2001.
