German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced that Germany pledges €32.3 million in additional support to Moldova for coping with the multiple effects of the war in Ukraine, Agerpres reported, with reference to the German press agency DPA. The funds will be used to extend the renewable sources of energy, to promote energy efficiency and to develop municipal infrastructure. The pledges were made in the third ministerial conference of the Moldova Support Platform that is held in Paris, IPN reports.

From the additional donation, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development will offer €28.7 million to improve energy efficiency of buildings. “With this support, we help the Republic of Moldova to break its dependence on Russian energy and also assist the persons in difficulty to pass winter,” said Minister Svenja Schulze, being quoted by Agerpres.

The third ministerial conference of the Moldova Support Platform is co-chaired by Germany and Romania, together with the host country. French President Emmanuel Macron and Moldovan President Maia Sandu will address the conference’s closing session.

The first two ministerial conferences held in April and July in Berlin and Bucharest raised a
total of €600 million in donation pledges and contributions. The next donors’ conference will take place next year in Chisinau.
