Benches and vases of flowers were placed on a section of Pushkin St between 31 august 1989 St and Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd to prevent vehicles from being parked on the sidewalk. The initiative was implemented by the General Public Amenities Division.
Vasile Efros, head of the Division’s Territorial Development and Cleanup Section, has told IPN that the urban furniture includes 25 benches, ten garbage bins and 11 vases that will give a new look to the sidewalk intended for pedestrians. The opinions differ yet. The pedestrians are very satisfied, not yet the drivers. However, there are positive reactions among drivers too.
The laying out works cost 96,000 lei.
Vasile Efros said the project could be continued on Veronica Micle St. It is considered the possibility of turning this street into a pedestrian one. A similar initiative aimed at freeing the sidewalks from cars featured the Chekov Square, where poles were set up to hamper the vehicle’s access.
