Belarus and Moldova draw in Davis Cup

The men’s tennis team of Belarus and Moldova are level 1-1 after the first matchday of Group 2 Euro/African Zone of the Davis Cup, Info-Prim Neo reports. First, Moldova’s Roman Borvanov was defeated by Vladimir Ignatik, 4-6, 2-6, 4-6, but Radu Albot bested Belarus’s Dmitri Jirmont, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 6-2. The doubles match is scheduled on Saturday, February 11. Maxim Dubarenco and Andrei Gorban will take on the duo of Alexandr Buriy and Max Mirniy. The winner of the Moldova-Belarus fixture will be known on Sunday, February 12, after the last singles games: Ignatik vs. Albot and Jirmont vs. Borvanov. O victory against Belarus would be Moldova’s best result in the competition since its first participation in 1995. The winner of this fixture will meet Turkey or Bosnia and Herzegovina in the second round. The defeated team will participate in a play-off to keep its place in Group 2 Euro/African Zone of the Davis Cup.
