The number of cattle grown for their meat and milk decreased this year almost in half. Head of the Cattle Breeders Association of Moldova Radj Agaev told Info-Prim Neo that the drought is one of the main reasons behind the decrease.
“The situation is dire. The prices for meat fell considerably. People don’t buy, and don’t sell either. Presently, there is only one lady in Comrat whose sales are better. There are several other producers, in Calarasi and Briceni, but their activity is more intensive”, mentioned Radj Agaev.
During the year, the most demanded are milk cows, with the exception of spring, when bulls are in demand. The manager added that the demand for cattle was higher in the beginning of the year, but the summer drought decreased cereal yields, which ultimately decreased the demand for cattle.
Meat prices fell by approximately 20% this year. Another wave of discounts is expected in the second half of August, when many families prepare their children for school.
