A bee honey fair will be opened today, August 15, in the square of the National Opera House “Maria Biesu”. It involves 35 representatives of beekeepers associations, chairman of the National Association of Beekeepers Stefan Condratiuc has told IPN.

Stefan Condratiuc said the fair will continue until August 19. Afterward, the beekeepers will have a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to discuss the situation in the sector. The beekeepers who will want to continue selling honey will be able to stage similar fairs in the districts of Chisinau.

According to Stefan Condratiuc, a charity concert and a number of contests will be held on the last day of the fair. The beekeepers will present their best products and the equipment with which they work.

The beekeepers’ leader said the honey at the fair will be cheaper, not yet the acacia honey that is scarce this year as the acacia bloomed earlier and the bees didn’t manage to collect much pollen. “The situation in the sector is generally good. We had a bad period in spring, but the flowers then bloomed well owing to rain,” stated Stefan Condratiuc.

A kilogram of honey now costs 50 lei. The acacia honey is the most expensive one and costs up to 85 lei a kilogram.
