The members of the parliamentary group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists request the government to urgently intervene in connection with the rise in bread prices following a good wheat harvest. The statement was made by the deputy head of the Parliament’s commission on agriculture and food industry Radu Mudreac in a news conference.

According to the MP, the parliamentary group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists will also seek hearings in Parliament on the issue. The wheat harvest this year is rich, of 1.5 million tonnes. This is four times higher that domestic consumption.

The MP noted that the drought of 2020 affected the wheat harvest and only 560,000 tonnes of wheat were gathered. Owing to the financial resources allocated from the state budget and the assistance provided by the Russian Federation in the cultivation of winter wheat, Moldova will have a record harvest this year.

Radu Mudreac said there are no reasons to raise the prices of bread. This rise will primarily affect the people on low incomes.
