MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) criticize the government’s intention to withdraw from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). According to them, the government’s statements and this gesture are populist n character and are designed to please the backers from Europe and from over the ocean, but nobody thought about the disastrous consequences for the Moldovan economy and the Moldovans, IPN reports.

The statements were made in a news conference held in the Parliament Building, which involved Igor Dodon, who vacated his seat of MP in Octobers 2021.”We consider that this is a strategic mistake and is a crime against the real sector of the economy and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. When the government cannot cope with the social, economic problems, the charges in the energy sector, it introduces in the agenda subjects that have nothing to do with citizens’ interests. I want to ask those who are in power – did they calculate the economic effect of Moldova’s withdrawal from the CIS?” asked Igor Dodon, who serves as the executive secretary of the Party of Socialists.

Communist MP Oleg Reidman said the idea of denouncing the agreement on the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the CIS is demonstrative, being formulated at the request of the development partners. Such a decision will have serous consequences. This Assembly is a platform for discussing all kinds of problems, for drafting model laws that can form the basis of the national legislation. Also, a large number of Moldovans live and work in CIS countries.

Socialist MP Adrian Lebedinschi said the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the CIS enables the MPs from different countries to exchange experience. The government forgets that about half a million Moldovans are in CIS countries and perceives only the diaspora from Europe.

“We call again on the current government to stop these sterile, populist statements and this demonstration of loyalty to someone,” said Socialist Deputy Speaker Vlad Batrîncea.

A day ago, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu requested the Cabinet to initiate the procedure for withdrawing the Republic of Moldova from the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States. According to him, after the CIS founder Russia brutally attacked another founding state, Ukraine, occupying territories of this and killing its citizens, this organization can no longer be called a community. He noted that Moldova’s presence in the CIS bodies didn’t help the country resolve the Transnistrian conflict and obtain the withdrawal of the Russian army from its territory.

The Commonwealth of Independent States was founded on December 8, 1991.
