The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists came with placards to the March 30 sitting of Parliament in order to express their disagreement with the bill concerning the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS). They demanded that the given legislative initiative should be excluded from the agenda, IPN reports.

The placards contained the following messages: “SIS – political cudgel of PAS!”, “PAS government – dictatorial regime!”, “Right to respect for private life!”, “Respect secrecy of correspondence!”

“As you know, this bill generated negative resonance and criticism in society, among state institutions, including the Prosecutor’s Office and the National Center for Personal Data Protection, the bar and the business community,” said Socialist MP Fiodor Găgăuz. “The Government approved this bill only formally and indicated a series of changes that need to be made. The bill was also criticized by the Venice Commission.”

The BCS MPs’ proposal to exclude the bill from the agenda was short of votes.

The package of laws on the SIS consists of the law on the Security and Intelligence Service of the Republic of Moldova, the law on intelligence and counterintelligence, and amendments to the law on the status of the intelligence and security officer.
