The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) maintain that the pensions should be indexed for two times a year given that the prices are soaring. They suggested that the Government should freeze the prices of a number of food products and should come up with support measures for business entities, IPN reports.

BCS MP Alla Darovannaya told a news conference that the prices and tariffs increased significantly at the end of last year and at the beginning of this year. Following the rises, the suppliers of electricity asked for higher tariffs.

The Government proposed indexing the pensions by 13.9% on April 1 and providing a lump-sum in assistance, but the size of this wasn’t made public. The BCS MPs suggest the pensions should be indexed two times a year, as earlier.

The second bill proposed by the BCS provides for the indexation of pensions and social benefits on January 1. “We also suggest returning to the legislative proposal to offer by 1,000 lei to all the pensioners whose pensions are lower than 4,000 lei. I note that this proposal can be implemented at a cost of about 600 million lei,” said Alla Darovannaya, noting these costs can be covered with money accumulated as excise duties on fuel or other taxes paid by consumers into the state budget.
