The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) has again warned publicly StarNet SRL, which is an important cable TV operator, for retransmitting in some of the country’s settlements without authorization, IPN reports.
Victor Pulbere, director of the BCC’s Examinations and Licensing Division, said the operator retransmits TV channels in Calarasi town thought it was authorized to do so only in the municipality of Chisinau and in Ungheni town. “This time the violation was committed at the beginning of this month, at the place of a subscriber, from where there were rebroadcast 98 TV channels. Another 140 TV channels were retransmitted from the company’s head office in this town,” stated Victor Pulbere. He presumed that the given operator provides cable TV services practically in all the settlements where it provides Internet services.
According to Victor Pulbere, the operator was for several times warned publicly and fined for seriously violating the broadcasting legislation. Moreover, two years ago it was deprived of license. The operator successfully challenged then the decision in court.
Contacted by IPN, representatives of StarNet said they will issue a communiqué on the topic the coming days.
