A member of the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC), Valeriu Soltan, will stay 25 in the remand prison of the anti-corruption squad, being suspected of exporting money from a broadcaster. The spokeswoman of the Economic Crimes and Corruption Combating Center (ECCCC,), Angela Starinschi, has told Info-Prim Neo, that “Valeriu Soltan is probed for passive corruption.” He allegedly asked $12,000 from the manager of a radio station to protect the latter's work. Valeriu Soltan was arrested on June 12, and on June 13, a Chisinau district court ordered his remand. The ECCCC arrested and interrogated several BCC members in June 2007, all suspected of asking money for protection. Then Valeriu Soltan was arrested by the squad on June 13, 2007, but, as his colleagues, he was released shortly, without proving his guilt. BCC chairman Gheorghe Gorincioi has not been found to comment the situation.
