The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) on December 18 issued licences for using the radio frequencies put up for contest on October 19. The radio stations “Radio Sanatatea” and “Antena C” were among the most important players.
“Radio Sanatatea” obtained broadcast licences for all the nine frequencies that it uses at present. Though by three-four contenders competed for some of these frequencies, most of the BCC members chose “Radio Sanatatea”, saying that it is a useful radio broadcaster that did not commit serious violations of the legislation throughout its activity.
“Antena C” obtained only two of the six frequencies that it holds at the moment – a frequency in Varnita, through which it now does not broadcast, and a frequency in Straseni, on the eastern band. The frequency in Straseni 102.3 FM was given to a new radio station – “Vox Radio”, while the other frequencies remained free.
The radio station “Pro FM” obtained the right to broadcast through the two frequencies that it uses at present, while “Vzrosloie Radio Sanson” will use the frequency in Chisinau. “Radio Plai” got two new frequencies: in Floresti and in Stefan Voda.
Six of the 26 frequencies put up for contest remained vacant.
Twenty-four broadcasters took part in the contest. Only six of them obtained at least one radio frequency each. Twelve contenders applied for the frequency 98.0 FM in Comrat, but it was given to none of them.
Under the Broadcasting Code, the broadcast licences are offered for a period of seven years.
