The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) and the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI) joined forces in order to combat piracy in Moldova. A joint plan of action was signed on February 29, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the BCC chairman Marian Pocaznoi, they aim to diminish and prevent cases of illegal use of the objects protected by copyright and to respect the rights of the national and foreign holders in the broadcasting sector. “It is a plan consisting of nine points, which provide for the exchange of information between the two institutions. We will send the relevant conclusions to the Ministry of the Interior, which can impose penalties,” said Marian Pocaznoi. The two signatories will put forward proposals for improving the legislation on the protection of copyright and for implementing provisions of the relevant international agreements and conventions. Marian Pocaznoi said that Moldova does not have an institution that could impose penalties in this area. “We will submit legislative proposals, but the BCC cannot intervene in the area of Internet, where piracy is well developed. Certain related laws are to be adjusted,” he stated. Under the plan of action, the BCC and AGEPI will identify the products broadcast based on contacts with authors, will instruct each other about the copyright protection system, will have common meetings and will take part in programs to inform public onion about the phenomenon of piracy.
