The Bashkan of Gagauzia Irina Vlah made an appeal “to the political administration of the country”, expressing her concern about the actions taken in relation to Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo, who was suspended from post and was arrested two days ago. According to her, it is evident that the state institutions acted by order, not according to law, and the wish to intimidate Alexandru Stoianoglo is also evident, IPN reports.

“More exactly, we are concerned about the staged show by which the political administration of the country is trying to simulate the obeying of the law. As during the darkest periods of dictatorship, a criminal case and some evidence that was enough to carry out searches and to arrest the Prosecutor General and his wife appeared in several hours,” Irina Vlah stated in her appeal that was also sent to the press. According to her, this is a case of exerting of direct pressure on Alexandru Stoianoglo for making him keep silent.

The governor expressed her conviction that Stoianoglo does not intend to leave the country and to avoid the investigation bodies. On the contract, he is ready to prove his innocence. “I call on all the decision makers to abide by the democratic law and by the human rights and freedoms. Don’t forget that you promised to build the rule of law. In a state with the rule of law, the public institutions act in accordance with the law, not by the order of politicians,” said Irina Vlah.

Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo was arrested for 72 hours in the evening of October 5, being held at the remand prison of the Chisinau Police Inspectorate. The prosecutor in charge of the case, Victor Furtună, said that legal action was taken against the prosecutor general over abuse of power, misconduct in office, passive corruption and falsehood. Also, Alexandr Stoianoglo was suspended from post for the period of the investigation.
