Gagauzian’s Bashkan Yevgenia Guțul on Tuesday was summoned to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO), where she was familiarized with the indictment. When leaving the institution, she said that it was a political case fabricated by order of the current government, IPN reports.

The Bashkan noted that it is a case that was fabricated two years ago against her and the former Shor Party, which was declared unconstitutional. “I was questioned for two hours. I was accused and I want to say that all the persons involved in this case, which was drawn up by order of Maia Sandu and the ruling party PAS, will answer for this pressure because the PAS government is not eternal. It is pressure on me and direct pressure on the citizens of Gagauzia,” stated Yevgenia Guțul.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, officials from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office haven’t yet provided an answer.

In connection with the Bashkan election held in the spring of 2023, anticorruption prosecutors, together with anticorruption officers and employees of the National Investigation Inspectorate, carried out a number of investigative measures in a case on corruption of voters by representatives of a political party to influence them to vote for a particular electoral competitor in the election in ATU Gagauzia. It was then found that, between March and May 2023, Yevgenia Guțul, as an electoral competitor featured in that case, as well as her initiative group, knowingly accepted financial means from an organized criminal group, which allegedly have been used for the illicit remuneration of activists involved in the electoral campaign to elect the governor of ATU Gagauzia.
