Basarabeasca raion may have a new asylum for older people in 2007

Next year it is planned to put into commission a shelter for elderly persons in Basarabeasca raion. The building is located in Sadaclia village and will become the first asylum for many single and sick old people living in the raion’s villages. Head of social insurance Division in the raion Mihail Martanov told the local radio station Bas FM, cited by Info-Prim Neo, that about 1.5 mln lei have been invested in the facility’s construction so far. A canteen will be also built in 2007. The building will be slowly but surely equipped with all the basic utilities and amenities. According to the same source, the community in the raion relies much on the state budget so that the facility is finalised in due time. At present, the employees of the social insurance Division in Basarabeasca provide at-home services to 547 single older people. Out of whom 42 are bedridden people and about 60 are disabled persons of different degrees. At the same time, only 35 social workers make up the staff of the Division. Basarabeasca town has under its patronage 265 older people, Abaclia and Sadaclia - 90, Bascalia and Iserlia - 30 etc. This way, the new building would make the lives of older people and efforts of the social workers much easier.
