The bas-relief of academician Vasile Anestiadi was placed on the façade of the Morphological Block of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu”. The unveiling event that involved the University’s administration, teachers, students and residents took place on May 4, when Vasile Anestiadi would have turned 90, IPN reports.

“Nicolae Testemitanu” University rector Ion Ababii said Vasile Anestiadi is one of the famous personalities who laid the foundations of the national medical education. He was a competent and erudite teacher who cultivated the spirit of work, love for the book and scientific research in students. The prodigious multilateral activity of the academician was highly appreciated and he was given many state awards. “Owing to his special attitude to the professional obligations, professor Anestiadi earned the esteem of students, colleagues and doctors and all those who knew him,” stated the rector.

Attending the event, president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Gherghe Duca said Vasile Anestiadi was a remarkable personality who pleaded actively for the common cause and ideals of the nation. “He achieved many results. He was very active and was very talented. At the age of 27, he became a Doctor of Medical Sciences. At the age of 35 he became a Doctor Habilitate and rector of the Institute of Medicine. At the age of 37 he was elected member of the Academy of Sciences,” stated Gherghe Duca.

The bas-relief of academician Vasile Anestiadi was made by plastic artist and architect Leonid Popescu.

Vasile Anestiadi was born in Saratenii Vechi village of Orhei district on May 4, 1928. He studied at the State Institute of Medicine in Chisinau. His scientific research centered mainly on the pathomorphology of atherosclerosis. The results of his research were published in over 700 scientific works, including ten monographs. He guided over 100 pupils and founded the scientific pathomorphology school in Moldova. He died on November 13, 2014.
